Major General Kevin C. Leahy

Commander, U.S. Special Operations Command Central

Major General Kevin Leahy is an Army Special Forces Officer who assumed command of United States Special Operations Command Central, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, in July of 2022 following assignment as the Joint Staff, Deputy Director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy.   

A native of Oakland, New Jersey, MG Leahy began his military career in the Army Reserve in December 1989. While at the University of Scranton, Scranton, Pennsylvania, he joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps and later commissioned as a Military Police Officer in May 1993. 

MG Leahy completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in 1998 and was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Kentucky for the first time. Over the course of his career, MG Leahy has served in every 5th SFG (A) leadership position, culminating as the Group Commander. MG Leahy participated in multiple operational and combat deployments to the CENTCOM AOR. 

MG Leahy also served as the Commander, Special Operations Command Africa Forward – Central Africa (Uganda), Deputy Commander, Special Operations Command Central (MacDill AFB, Florida), and Deputy Commanding General (Operations), 7th Infantry Division (Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington).  

MG Leahy served in a variety of staff positions, most recently as the Joint Staff, Deputy Director for Strategy Plans and Policy.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Scranton and a Master of Military Arts and Sciences from the US Army Command and General Staff College.

MG Leahy is married to Tracy and they have four children.
