Dr. Sambit Bhattacharya

Dr. Sambit Bhattacharya

Director of Intelligent Systems Lab, Dept of Math and Computer Science, Fayetteville State University
Dr. Sambit Bhattacharya has a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a tenured Full Professor of Computer Science at Fayetteville State University, North Carolina, USA and he is Director of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory. In 2023 he was honored by the University of North Carolina (UNC) Board of Governor’s Award for Teaching Excellence. He is a winner of NASA’s Space Tech Catalyst prize in 2024. He works on use-inspired research in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with a broad range of techniques and applications, and with multidisciplinary teams. He has many peer reviewed publications and has delivered several keynote lectures at conferences. His research has applications to geospatial intelligence, computer vision with synthetic data for rare object detection and target recognition, efficiency and latency reducing inference for edge computing, automation, and manufacturing. Dr. Bhattacharya leads projects funded by national agencies and local government. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE. While on teaching leave from the university, he has served as faculty research fellow in research labs of the DoD and the IC; and he is now a part-time Visiting Scientist at the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA).
